ADAT digital audio tape recorders, and similar devices, have trouble
recording LD2000-style raster frames. All other frames look fine, but as shown
below, the color information in LD2000's raster frames simply can't be
adequately recorded.

ADAT
playback of a raster frame. The blur is caused by the ADAT's 44.1KHz
sample rate only picking up one out of every three of the QM2000's 120KHz
color samples.
Depending on the subject, this could look even
worse thanks to temporal aliasing. For example, in the picture
of the woman on the picket fence, some pickets will disappear on ADAT because
they're at just the wrong frequency to be picked up by the 44.1KHz sample
rate. |

Original
raster frame coming direct from the QM2000. Note how every
"pixel" on the raster lines is distinct and sharp. The ADAT --
or any recording device with a sample rate well below 120KHz -- will not
be able to capture every pixel. |
