by Pyrotek Special Effects
Word has it that Victoria Beckham vetoed the use of conventional pyro effects. Instead, however, Roy Bennett and Springo hired Pyrotek Special Effects and its president, Doug Adams, to create a range of interesting laser sequences. These include a pink and purple effect for a specific, fashion show-themed catwalk entrance.
Said Adams: "I wanted to ensure that the lasers generated full colour and strong appearance. We resorted from using the 5W and invested in three new 10W full colur, air-cooled diode lasers to really make the laser show punchy."

One laser is recessed beneath the stage in the center of the upstage area, while the other two are located under the band risers. The system is controlled by a 3-Card Pangolin Laser Control System and there are a total of 60 bounce mirrors over and around the main staige and B-stage.
In creating a full look, Adams ensured that the framing of the scans would be as wide as possible. Also provided by Pyrotek are two LSGs for low smoke effects and 18 cryo jet heads each fitted with an individual head linked to its own 50lb high-pressure liquid CO2 tank.

Justin Timberlake Tour 2007
by Laser Design Productions
Success as a member of a group doesn't always translate into a
successful carreer on one's own, yet, in the past few decades,
some of the most influential solo artists launched their careers
with bands that also enjoyed huge popularity.

Six fibre-optic fed remote scanners and
almost 60 bounce mirrors round out the design and the entire laser
show is run by Chris Blair on a Pangolin system tucked away in a
corner of the massive stage.
While timecode use is quite prevalent on
this tour, the laser show is triggered manually by Blair each
night, allowing him some room between cues to change up as the
tour progresses. |

Lasers are a great way to actually bring the show
out to the audience and make them feel as though they are part of
the show. Beams can be used for that attention-getting look that
just cannot be recreated by any other medium, or laser scans can
be used for actually creating voluminous shapes of light in the
air or projected onto a screen as laser graphics.

The full-color laser systems are great for
creating custom laser graphics and laser animations. Our
award-winning Art Department can create an original animated laser
light show that can be programmed to music, projected onto a
screen, building, basketball court, football field, or pretty much
anywhere you would like.

Two horizontally mounted mirror balls, 21
custom 4 lamp beacons, and a 2.5W green YAG laser.
The YAG is hung downstage centre and is used mostly to create a
cage effect with which Globalsoft traps any rebels. It is
triggered directly from the Wholehog by DMX with a Pangolin system
providing an interface to smooth out some of the cues where the
"cage" has to move.

Opening Night at Lincoln Financial Field
by LSDI
The Opening Night at Lincoln
Financial Field was one of the larger shows
produced by LSDI, and we were responsible for all show elements.
Three
lasers were used; two Lee Laser model 8100 Nd:YAG lasers, each
producing
50 Watts. Up at the top of the stadium was the 3rd laser, a Lee
Laser
LDP-100, projecting images down onto the field.
Since the stadium was directly on the approach path to
Philadelphia
airport, all laser effects were terminated within the venue.

All show elements, laser, pyro, lighting, video, and flame
effects,
operated directly from SMPTE timecode. Each laser system had its
own
LD2000 system and timecode reader. The overall show took three
days to
setup, one evening of show, and one day to strike. A crew of
about 45
people, including 16 programmers, senior technicians, and stage
managers
was needed to make this happen. When the audience was on their
feet
cheering only half way through the show, I knew we had a winner. |

Four custom designed linear actuators enable
vertical positioning of the fiber fed remote scanners. These units
are remotely controlled and allow for the scan designs to be
manipulated vertically.
Wertz wanted a live, hands-on feel for control of the lasers and
effects. Laser Design programmers were able to accommodate this
request using Pangolin's Live Pro and Midi control surfaces.

LaserNet supplied two 25-watt Verde Beam Raider YAG special
effects projectors for the event. The two systems were linked
together via a DMX computer and each projected a mirror image of
the other.
In this configuration,
programmer/operator Horacio Pugliese was able to create 3-dimensional beam
structures with perfect symmetry.Since each Verde Beam Raider has 10
adjustable beam positions used to target external bounce mirrors, the
LaserNet team had 20 static beams to create different looks for the
concert.
