Here is a list of additions and updates to Pangolin.com that were made during
2000. Important or extensive changes are
listed in boldface.
|
|
|
|
December 28 2000
- Pangolin joined the Lasers, Optics and Holography Ring. Links to this
webring were placed on the home page and the "Quick index"
section.
- Added information about Pangolin's memberships in ILDA, ELA and IAAPA
to the "Quick index" section found at the bottom of most pages
- Put banner ads about Lasershow Converter MAX on selected pages.
December 26 2000
- Updated and checked links to the LaserFX website, after they changed
some of their URLs.
- Moved the downloadable Amiga LSD1000
software files from LaserFX to Pangolin's website, so they will
still be available even if LaserFX is down.
December 21 2000
- Added information about the soon-to-be-released Lasershow
Converter MAX. This plug-in for 3D Studio MAX turns conventional
computer graphics into high-quality laser frames and animations. You
can pre-order Lasershow
Converter MAX now.
December 1 2000
- Added information for clients with ATI
All-in-Wonder video cards. Showtime 2000 may not be able to play MP3
files unless you make a few changes.
- Reorganized and reformatted technical assistance pages, into a new
"Tech Support" collection. This should make it easier to find
and navigate through various support topics.
|
|
|
November 28 2000
-
Added an online
shopping location. If your billing and shipping addresses are
both in the U.S., you can now use Visa or MasterCard to directly order
Pangolin products. (International and other clients can continue to
use the existing Product Order Form. And note that we recommend that end-users buy through dealers
whenever possible.)
-
Added new information about running
two projectors from one QM board.
-
Reformatted information about combining
two shows into one, to make the procedure clearer.

A few users who updated to Release 1.32 have not been
able to use the new MP3 capabilities of Showtime 2000. We have added a
page about using multimedia
in Showtime 2000, that should help solve any problems.
-
Made a separate price
list page for DMX controller boards. (Previously this had been part
of the LD2000 price list page.)
-
Updated the list
of music, to list nine songs from International Laser
Productions that are included free with LD2000.
November 2 2000
-
Music for two of the Release 1.32 free beam shows is now available.
Peter Heyt of !FX Laser Productions wrote Again! and Special!FX, and
licensed the music to Pangolin for laser-related uses. LD2000 users can download
MP3 versions of these songs and can play them with the new MP3
capabilities of Showtime 2000 Release 1.32.
-
MediaLas has released an update (version 1.30, "the final
release") to the VST2000 program that comes free with LD2000.
LD2000 users should obtain version 1.30 of VST2000 directly from MediaLas's
website.
-
Updated the Internet resources page to
ensure most links are active.
-
Performed general updating and cleanup of various pages.
November 1 2000
-
LD2000 Release 1.32 is now
available. Click
here for more information on what is in this release, and on the
three ways to obtain it: automatic web update, standard (non-automatic)
update, and ordering a new LD2000 Installation CD.
-
The LD2000 and Showtime 2000 programs are now available in German.
All text in the programs, including menus and dialog boxes, has been
translated to German. If you speak German, you should download
these programs.
Note: LD2000 now ships with both English and
German versions. All users can run either version. The download is for
German-speaking clients who do not have the latest (1.32) LD2000
Installation CD.
-
Added information on the Logic Systems DMX1602-DRV
DMX driver/decoder board, which Pangolin distributes.
-
Added information on SMPTE
timecode cards for LD2000 applications.

October 19 2000
-
Updated the music list,
to reflect
new shows to be added shortly onto the LD and LD2OOO distribution discs.
-
Added information about the new Gateway
Solo 5300-series notebooks. These are less expensive than the Solo
9300-series, yet they can use the same Gateway Solo Docking Station,
which is probably the best single-board docking solution for LD2000
users.
October 12 2000
-
Added translation services from AltaVista's BabelFish
software. To use, click the
fish found on the right side of many Pangolin.com pages. This takes you to the
BabelFish page. Then, specify the translation language: German, French,
Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese. Some notes:
-- BabelFish translations are
limited to about 800 words per page. Longer Pangolin.com pages will not
translate completely.
-- BabelFish is a
general-purpose (non-technical) computer translation. Translations will
have mistakes, but it still should be possible to understand the general idea.
-- Some pages here at
Pangolin.com have been fully translated, especially pages in Italian and
Portuguese. Click the flag icons in the Quick Index (at the bottom of most Pangolin.com
pages), to
go to these more accurate translations.

the Internet to use LD2000's automatic web update feature, or you could
order the LD2000 Installation CD. Now, you can download
a file with the 1.21 update -- this is ideal if your LD2000 computer
cannot be connected to the Internet.

Pangolin has identified a problem that affects some
users installing from the yellow LD2000 CDs with "CD release"
number 1 or 2 written on the disc. If you get Runtime Error 339 when
trying to run LD2000 or Showtime, click
here for more information.
-
This problem may also affect users installing LD2000
version 1.21 from the website. Therefore, we also revised the 8.5 MB
update files here at the website, to be sure the problem would not occur
when using LD2000's automatic updating feature.

-
If you are interested in photographing lasers, visit
the new Laser Show Resource Guide page on how
to take good laser photos.
-
Updated information in the Laser Show Resource Guide,
including adding laser magazines The Laserist
and Pro Lights and Staging News, and an invaluable banner
ad for the technologically informative website "Britney Spears' Guide to
Semiconductor Physics".
August 23 2000
-
LD2000
version 1.21 is now available. LD2000 users can download
the 8.5 MB update files, or they can order
the latest LD2000 Installation CD. This is a major update which includes
DMX lighting and device control, a clip art browse/search function, and
LD2000 and Showtime 2000 help files.
-
Pangolin has identified a problem that affects the
color outputs of a small number of
QM2000
boards. We have contacted relevant clients to arrange a free repair.
-
Updated the LD2000
version history page and the ILDA
2000 conference page.
-
Removed LD Update 17a (for the older QM32-based
system). We expect to have a new update for LD clients shortly, which
will replace and improve upon Update 17a.
-
Added photos of laser
beams and cheerleaders. The photos were taken for a football program
ad, and came out so well we put them here at the website.

August 14 2000
August 2 2000
-
Updated information on our new Lasershow
Player model CD2000 standalone playback device. The player is being
manufactured now. It should be available for shipping in late August.
-
Added two advertisements to the Printed
brochures and ads page. These ads appeared in The Laserist magazine
earlier this year; they can be downloaded and printed as Adobe PDF
files.
-
Removed some older pages written prior to May 1999.

July 18-19 2000
-
LD Update 17a is
released for the LD (QM32) system. There were minor bugs in the July 3 version of LD, so this has
gone from version 3.02 (Update 17) to 3.02a (Update 17a). Showtime,
Autoplay and all other files in Update 17 remain the same.
-
Pangolin is proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of the
ILDA 2000 Conference. Click here
for details about the conference, and about the Pangolin User Group
meeting on October 5 2000.
-
Added two laser industry job
listings. Even if these have been filled by the time you read this,
the job listings can still give you a good idea of opportunities in the
field.
July 11 2000
-
If you use LD2000 with a notebook, you may be interested in the EasiDock
5000: a $600 "universal docking station" that works with
"virtually all notebooks". Up to three QM2000 boards can fit
in the unit.
-
Added information on various pages to make it clear that
LD2000 requires a QM2000
board in order
to run. Some potential customers have been asking if they can run LD2000
without a board. However, the software directly depends on QM2000
processing functions, so this is not possible.
